Neyland mum died of rare sudden death syndrome

A local family has been tested for a rare heart condition that killed a 20-year-old Neyland mother, just two months after she gave birth to her first child.
An inquest into Melissa Merrony's death found that she died from a rare sudden adult death syndrome (SADS) in April 2010, having only recently given birth to her son Keegan.
SADS is linked to anomalies in electrical workings of the heart and has links with cot deaths in infancy.
Melissa's mother Wendy Moody, from Milford Haven, said doctors will keep a close eye on Keegan but that the family were "all ok" following the tests.
"It's so tragic. It's on every mum's mind her baby dying suddenly from cot death and there are monitors and all sorts to prevent it.
"But you never imagine the mother dying. But Melissa died of the adult version of cot death.
"She adored Keegan so much but now she will never see him grow up and that breaks my heart."
Wendy is now raising 19-month-old Keegan, knowing he will not remember his mum.
She said: "He's doing really, really well. He's such a lovely, good baby. I'm just so sad that Melissa isn't here to see him. It just seems so unfair and cruel.
"As a family, we all still very numb but we have had so much support from people and we are very grateful.
"I will be sure to tell him how his little life brought the brightest sunshine into hers. She adored him so much.
"It's the best tribute I could possibly make to his wonderful mother."
